Measure F is one city councilmember's attempt to circumvent the majority on the city council and get rid of the person who serves us as City Attorney. Its intent is to dictate to the city council that Emeryville could not have an in-house City Attorney, even if that would be most cost effective for the taxpayers. It narrows the choices that our local government has to provide legal services to the city, requiring outsourcing of these services.
There is also the legal opinion that taking this power of decision-making away from the city council is not allowed under state law governing "General Law" cities, of which Emeryville is one.
Please vote NO on Measure F. Let's instead elect a city council that serves Emeryville well in making these decisions.
